Manufacturing Estimator - Job Description


The Manufacturing Estimator will prepare quotes for product manufacturing in collaboration with the Sales Engineer; based on customer RFQ details; providing customers with accurate and timely information to ensure CMS is acquiring new business in target markets. This position requires a technical knowledge of manufacturing processes both internally at CMS and externally with subcontractors. Knowledge of SolidWorks software and the ability to use the ERP cost estimating methods and being able to communicate clearly with customers & prospects is vital to the position.

  • Applies knowledge of estimating principles; (examination of detail components, drawings, special processes, and specifications, etc.) to review the customer's request and develop labor, material, and other non- labor cost estimates.
  • Consult with clients, vendors, and supervisors of other departments to discuss and formulate estimates, due diligence on capacity, capabilities, and risk analysis.
  • Estimates the needs for machine set up and run times, tooling, programs, and outside processes, identifying nonrecurring expenses, and entering all costs into the ERP system to establish pricing for the proposal and quote.
  • Develops and maintains effective relationships with our customers and internal staff to discuss proposed quotes, orders, their details and timelines.
  • Prepare, review, and analyze a wide range of estimates from definitive (sometimes conceptual ROMs) in aerospace, space, R & D, various industrial markets.
  • Develop pricing models, analysis of historical cost data, and research cost alternatives.
  • Review and analyze historical and current cost data; ensure that supporting rationale for cost estimates is complete and accurate. Duties and Areas of Responsibility:
  • Initiate, manage, and follow up on quotes to ensure that CMS remains competitive in efforts to earn new business.
  • Prepare quotes in the prioritized sequence based on our target markets and customer profile (ref: collaborative, growth minded, develop long term relationships).
  • Review material, labor requirements and all other information sources to decide best practices to produce parts.
  • Provide a high level of service to all internal and external customers -contributes and maintains a positive teamwork and collaborative environment.
  • Maintains a "value added" approach to estimating: Maximize profit, promote added value for the customer -ensure the target percentage capture of new sales, year-over-year.
