Centerless Grinder - Job Description
POSITION TITLE: Centerless Grinder REPORTS TO: Production Supervisor POSITION SUMMARY: Sets up and operates one or more centerless grinding machines to grind external surfaces of metal workpieces to blueprint specifications, following tooling instructions and standard charts and applying knowledge of grinding procedures. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: - Reads blueprint, shop order, or standard charts for product specifications such as dimensions, tolerances, and number of parts to be ground; as well as processing parameters such as grinding speeds, feed rates, holding fixtures, and grinding wheels to be used.
- Mounts grinding wheel and regulating wheel on spindles using wrenches.
- Dresses wheels to specifications, using dressing devices.
- Moves controls to set specified grinding speeds, feed rates, and spacing between wheel faces.
- Positions and secures the work rest at specified height, using wrenches.
- Lifts and positions the workpiece and secures it between wheels and on the work rest.
- Starts machine and observe its operation.
- Verifies dimensions of the ground workpiece for conformance to specifications, using measuring instruments such as micrometers, calipers, and Swede indicators.
- Communicates with co-workers and supervisors to receive instructions and coordinate activities.
- Trains all employees assigned for training.
- Maintains a clean and safe work area and observes safe work practices.
- Must maintain a consistent and acceptable productive rate at the required quality level.
14) Maintains coolant levels and lubricants as required. JOB QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: - TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE: Between 6 months and 1 year of trade school, vocational education, work experience, or apprenticeship. Familiarity with machine shop practices and equipment is required.
- PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The employee is required to stand, walk, push, pull, reach overhead, and bend to the floor; exert 20-50 lbs. of force occasionally, exert 10-25 lbs. of force frequently, exert up to 10 lbs. of force constantly to move objects.
- Visual Acuity: near acuity and accommodation required for reading machine dial gages, blueprints, shop orders, and precision measuring devices.
- Hearing Ability: Ability to monitor machine sounds to identify and diagnose changes in order to take appropriate actions.
- C) Working Environment: General machine shop conditions. The employee may be required to follow other job-related instructions and to perform other job-related duties as requested, subject to all applicable state and federal laws.
