Controller - Job Description

Effectively directs and coordinates all activities related to timely and accurate financial documentation/reporting.

Duties

  • Prepare timely and accurate reports that summarize the company's current and forecasted business activities and financial position including income statements, balance sheets, capital expenditure spending, and asset depreciation.
  • Maintain appropriate financial procedures/controls throughout the company in accordance with generally accepted accounting practices.
  • Maintain adequate and cost effective insurance protection against property losses and potential liabilities.
  • Oversee the timely and accurate preparation of financial audits and tax filings.
  • Spearhead the development of annual operating budgets and budget updates and track ongoing performance against those budgets.
  • Maintain healthy banking relationships.
  • Identify continuous improvement opportunities and recommend action plans.
  • Determine departmental operating budgets and control spending both within those budgets and in response to evolving business conditions. 
  • Monitor new developments in both methods and technology and promote their adoption as appropriate and utilize education, training and mentoring as a means to develop organizational strength and provide continuous improvement leadership for all areas of responsibility.

Requirements

  • Bachelors degree in Accounting or Finance with experience in a manufacturing environment, including a minimum of 3 years of cost accounting and management experience
  • CPA license preferred
  • Polished language skills with the ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing pertaining to areas of responsibility as well as to the company's business as a whole.
  • Able to read and make analytical use of quantitative data, financial reports and information related to the company's business or technology.
  • Possess mathematical skills required to perform all math calculations and understand all math concepts as they relate to the specific job which may include (as required) algebra and geometry, statistics, accounting and financial calculations, etc.
  • Able to work with abstract variables, including envisioning cause and effect; collecting, comprehending, and interpreting complex information; establishing facts, drawing valid conclusions, creating instructions, and describing a forward vision. Capable of critical thinking.
  • Skilled user of word processing, spreadsheets, etc. such as Microsoft Office Suite, ERP software, multiple databases, and use of the Internet.
  • Direct and coordinate the work of multi-functional groups and deals with moderately complex employee issues. Take responsibility for subordinates' activities and fosters a focus on quality.  Effectively influence actions and opinions of others, accepts feedback and gives appropriate recognition.  Provide regular performance feedback including recognition.
  • Develop subordinates' skills and encourages growth.  Construct workable implementation plans, communicate changes effectively, build commitment and overcome resistance, monitor transitions, and evaluate results.
