Mechanical Engineer - Job Description


Brief Description:

Project Engineer will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining complex custom turn-key automation and robotic equipment/systems that optimize manufacturing processes utilizing CAD (Inventor).


Responsibilities:

  • Engineer designs that satisfy contract specifications and all applicable design standards while meeting material budget constraints
  • Perform engineering calculations with respect to strength of materials, speeds, horsepower, temperature, pressure, force, etc., as related to machine and tool designs
  • Analyze engineering drawings and specifications to determine shape, dimensions, hardness, etc., in the development of equipment, processes and products
  • Conduct research that tests or analyzes the feasibility of design, operation, and performance of equipment and components
  • Provide technical directions to Toolmakers and Machinists as needed
  • Participate in design and project reviews as needed
  • Research and specify appropriate purchased components
  • Create and update drawings, flow diagrams, Bills of Materials, organize release packages
  • Create and maintain documentation for Operating Manuals
  • Ensure the mechanical design is functional, robust, and cost effective
  • Innovate and use good judgement to incorporate company standards, customer and regulatory requirements
  • Consult regularly with Project Engineer Supervisor to report status, raise issues
  • Work with suppliers to find/develop the most functional and economical solutions to mechanical design issues
  • Work under the confines of project schedule and budget
  • Problem solve with Machine Builders to debug mechanical issues
  • Complete correspondence, documentation and reports as required including updates
  • Maintain departmental goals in keeping with company objectives
  • Support and participate in Quality Management initiatives

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Must have excellent proficiency with CAD (Inventor preferred)
  • Knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology
  • Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principals involved in the production of precision technical plans, blueprints, drawings and models
  • Knowledge of machines and tools, including their design, use, repair and maintenance
  • Ability to understand and align activities with department priorities and objectives
  • Strong diagnostic problem solving skills
  • Strong communication skills (both verbal and written)
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to successfully manage multiple activities/initiatives at one time
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently with a high regard for accuracy, attention to detail and confidentiality
  • Must be able to work from schematics and rough sketches to complete assignments
  • Positive work attitude
  • Must be able to work well with others, build and maintain positive employee relations and be a team player
  • Must exhibit objectivity and openness to others' views
  • Must be customer minded and have pride in task accomplishment
  • Must be willing to give an extra hand when needed
  • Must be willing to be involved in optimization of production methods and process flows

Experience and Education Requirements:

  • 5+ years of mechanical automation experience
  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering
