Mechanical Engineer - Job Description
Brief Description: Project Engineer will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining complex custom turn-key automation and robotic equipment/systems that optimize manufacturing processes utilizing CAD (Inventor). Responsibilities: - Engineer designs that satisfy contract specifications and all applicable design standards while meeting material budget constraints
- Perform engineering calculations with respect to strength of materials, speeds, horsepower, temperature, pressure, force, etc., as related to machine and tool designs
- Analyze engineering drawings and specifications to determine shape, dimensions, hardness, etc., in the development of equipment, processes and products
- Conduct research that tests or analyzes the feasibility of design, operation, and performance of equipment and components
- Provide technical directions to Toolmakers and Machinists as needed
- Participate in design and project reviews as needed
- Research and specify appropriate purchased components
- Create and update drawings, flow diagrams, Bills of Materials, organize release packages
- Create and maintain documentation for Operating Manuals
- Ensure the mechanical design is functional, robust, and cost effective
- Innovate and use good judgement to incorporate company standards, customer and regulatory requirements
- Consult regularly with Project Engineer Supervisor to report status, raise issues
- Work with suppliers to find/develop the most functional and economical solutions to mechanical design issues
- Work under the confines of project schedule and budget
- Problem solve with Machine Builders to debug mechanical issues
- Complete correspondence, documentation and reports as required including updates
- Maintain departmental goals in keeping with company objectives
- Support and participate in Quality Management initiatives
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: - Must have excellent proficiency with CAD (Inventor preferred)
- Knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology
- Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principals involved in the production of precision technical plans, blueprints, drawings and models
- Knowledge of machines and tools, including their design, use, repair and maintenance
- Ability to understand and align activities with department priorities and objectives
- Strong diagnostic problem solving skills
- Strong communication skills (both verbal and written)
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to successfully manage multiple activities/initiatives at one time
- Self-motivated and able to work independently with a high regard for accuracy, attention to detail and confidentiality
- Must be able to work from schematics and rough sketches to complete assignments
- Positive work attitude
- Must be able to work well with others, build and maintain positive employee relations and be a team player
- Must exhibit objectivity and openness to others' views
- Must be customer minded and have pride in task accomplishment
- Must be willing to give an extra hand when needed
- Must be willing to be involved in optimization of production methods and process flows
Experience and Education Requirements: - 5+ years of mechanical automation experience
- Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering
