Metal Stamping Die Set-up Technician - Job Description


Manor Tool is seeking a Setup Technician to join our team in Schiller Park, IL. The Setup Technician performs setup, progressive machining, assembly and fabricating operations on a variety of equipment. Requires setup experience and on the job training.

Manor Tool & Manufacturing Company began as a tool and die shop in 1959, and has grown to become a first class metal stamping company, specializing in punching, bending, forming and deep drawn stampings.


Responsibilities:

  • Set up all assigned machinery including presses, lathes, milling machines, etc.
  • Check work instruction to ensure accurate settings for job
  • Check tooling and equipment for overloads or improper tool maintenance. Report issues to foreman
  • Run production sample according to work instructions; troubleshoot to ensure product meets or exceeds customer specifications.
  • Check product against sample using various gages, micrometers, calipers, etc. as denoted on work instruction.
  • Visually inspect production for burrs, scratches, rust and other defects.
  • Separate materials and production used during set-up from production run.
  • Train new operators on assigned production ensuring set-up is running properly. Assign proper PPE to operators.
  • Support safety and lean initiatives including LEAN and SHARP by working within established OSHA guidelines and continuously looking for improved efficiency.
  • Address non-conformance issues from production runs.
  • Report machine maintenance issues to maintenance department.
  • Sample new production runs; complete pre-production approval processes; submit production documentation to quality department as required.
  • Return all tools, gages and parts, etc. to proper storage areas.
  • Perform preventative maintenance on assigned equipment and machines.
  • Inventory and order supplies, tools to efficiently complete production runs.
  • Provide input during employee evaluation process to management.
  • Timely and accurate completion of all paperwork associated with the position.
  • Participate in activities to increase personal skill level, overall departmental processes and product quality.
  • Maintain organized and clean work area.
  • Communicate all problems and other work issues with supervisor.
  • Receive, understand and follow all written and oral instruction.
  • Maintain acceptable attendance standards by reporting to work every day as expected and scheduling time away in advance of absence when necessary.
  • Comply with all company policies, procedures in including mission, safety and attendance requirements.
  • Resolve day-to-day issues by working effectively with others.
  • Other duties required to meet company needs as assigned by supervisor.

Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • 3 years' experience as set-up
  • Ability and willingness to complete TMA training programs as applicable to position.
  • Ability to pass company ISO, English, Safety and Math tests.
  • Knowledge and understanding of company safety programs including lockout/tagout and hazcom.
  • Ability to effectively convey written and or verbal instruction to production personnel
  • Knowledge of all department machines, equipment, processes and documentation
  • Proficient in Blue Print Reading and use of measuring equipment.

MINIMUM PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  1. Stamina to work all assigned hours.

  4. 20/20 required vision with or without correction.
  5. Ability to stand and or walk 100% of the workday.
  6. Ability to bend, stoop or twist 50% of the workday.
  7. Ability to exert physical force to push, pull, lift or carry 50 pounds frequently.
  8. Ability to work in a shop environment - continuous exposure to potentially hazardous metal working machinery and equipment, loud noises, dust, mist, oils and solvents.
