Quality Engineer / Manager - Job Description


General Description:

Oversee the quality system and personnel. Ensure quality system requirements are established, implemented, maintained and improved in accordance with the organizational goals.

Responsibilities:

  • Establish, implement, train, maintain and improve quality system
    • Upgrade quality system to meet new or revised standards as required
    • Maintain quality system manuals, documentation, records
    • Keep shop floor work instructions and record forms current
    • Monitor effectiveness of quality policies, procedures, work instructions
    • Oversee practicality of inspection and test methods, gage controls, SPC and capability analysis, etc.
    • Make recommendations for improvement
    • Track and analyze NCRs, CARs, customer complaints & other metrics as assigned
    • Monitor material, in-process and outgoing product quality at all levels
    • Conduct training sessions related to the quality system
  • Coordinate Quality System Audits
    • Schedule and conduct internal quality audits
    • Act as management representative for third-party audits
    • Monitor corrective actions and recommendations resulting from the audits and management review
  • Assist in New Product Introduction Quality Planning Activities
    • Create control & inspection plans as required
    • Assure ISIR, PPAP, SPC & other quality documentation is created as required
  • Assist Purchasing with Assessment of Vendors to Assure They Meet Quality Standards
    • Maintain vendor nonconformity and corrective action records
    • Communicate information to vendors and appropriate S&R personnel
  • Identify Nonconforming Product and Material
    • Maintain records
    • Communicate information to appropriate personnel
  • Assist Engineering in Establishing Product Specifications and Workmanship Standards
    • Collect data as necessary for the Engineering department to establish standards
    • Integrate special quality requirements provided by Engineering and designated by customers with S&R product standards
    • Communicate changes to appropriate employees, customers, and vendors
  • Schedule and Control Calibration of all Inspection Tools
    • Perform in-house calibration of all plant micrometers, calipers and miscellaneous gages
    • Oversee or perform the inspection of all operator-owned inspection instruments
    • Initiate and coordinate outside calibration of instruments as required by schedule
    • Redistribute all calibrated instruments
  • Participate in lean activities

Minimum Educational Qualifications:

  • Associates in a related field
  • Or equivalent training and experience in manufacturing and marketing technology
