Shipping Supervisor - Lakeview Precision Machining, Inc. - Job Description


Lakeview Precision Machining, Inc. is seeking a Shipping Supervisor to join our team in South Elgin, IL. The Shipping Supervisor will work a 7am-3pm shift.

The Shipping Supervisor oversees and manages all daily shipping operations to ensure that orders are picked, packed, and shipped accurately, efficiently, and on time. This role leads the shipping team, coordinates with carriers and other departments, and ensures compliance with company policies and safety standards to prioritize shipments, resolve issues, and keep workflow running smoothly. The Shipping Supervisor plays a key role in maintaining high levels of customer satisfaction through reliable and timely deliveries.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee Shipping Operations:
    • Supervise daily shipping activities to ensure timely and accurate shipment of products.
  • Team Leadership:
    • Lead, coordinate, and train the shipping team (shipping clerks, packing clerks, forklift drivers, delivery driver).
  • Prepare Documentation:
    • Ensure packing lists, shipping labels, and Bills of Lading (BOLs) are accurate and complete.
    • Maintain shipping records in the ERP system or shipping software.
  • Carrier Coordination
    • Communicate and coordinate with freight carriers, couriers, and trucking companies.
    • Arrange pickups, negotiate shipping rates if needed, and track shipments in transit.
    • Resolve carrier-related issues, damages, or lost shipments.
  • Inventory and Materials
    • Verify inventory availability for outgoing orders.
    • Coordinate with warehouse and production teams to ensure products are staged for shipment.
    • Manage shipping supplies (boxes, pallets, tape, labels) and reorder as needed.
  • Compliance and Safety
    • Enforce compliance with company policies, OSHA, and DOT shipping regulations.
    • Monitor and maintain a safe, clean shipping dock and work area.
    • Implement best practices for handling, packing, and loading freight to prevent damage.
    • Schedule or delegate routine inspections and coordinate necessary repairs or maintenance.
  • Reporting and Continuous Improvement
    • Track shipping performance metrics (on-time shipments, costs, errors).
    • Identify process improvements to increase efficiency and reduce costs.
    • Report regularly to operations manager.
  • Waste Management
    • Coordinate with Logistics/Facilities for timely scrap, recycling, and waste removal.
    • Ensure compliance with company environmental policies for shipping-related waste.
    • Schedule
  • Cross-Departmental Coordination
    • Serve as liaison between shipping, production, warehouse, customer service, and purchasing to prioritize orders and solve problems.
    • Communicate order status and delays proactively.
    • Communicate any shortages or backorders to production for resolution
    • Work closely with Ops Manager and Logistics Lead to align shipping schedules with production output.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Logistics, Supply Chain, or related field preferred.
  • 3+ years of experience in shipping, warehouse, or logistics operations, with at least 1–2 years in a supervisory or lead role.
  • Strong knowledge of shipping software, carrier requirements (UPS, FedEx, LTL, freight), and warehouse management systems (WMS).
  • Proven leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
  • Valid forklift certification or willingness to obtain.
  • Ability to lift up to 35lbs and work on your feet for extended periods.
