CAD Designer - Job Description
Job Summary: We are seeking a CAD Designer to design metal stamping dies. The ideal candidate will have expertise with software such as SolidWorks with LogoPress or VISI and an understanding of die design for manufacturing stamped parts out of steel, stainless steel, alum, copper, brass, and other materials. This role involves 3D designing, and 2D detailing of stamping dies used in production stamping plants outside our facility. Our dies ship to many companies in many countries, mainly US, Canada & Mexico. With over 80 customers ordering a wide range of things last year, you will have the opportunity to learn a lot and see a lot of different types of design work. We design and build over 50 dies per year, along with designing and building jigs, fixtures, turnkey lines, and automation lines, shipping 80 jobs per month on average. With your skills added to our team, we plan to advance and grow. Key Responsibilities: - Utilizing 2D and 3D CAD models to design metal stamping dies using SolidWorks, LogoPress, VISI software, and detail in AutoCAD software.
- Work closely with shop supervisors, owners, engineers, and shop floor to create detailed die designs that meet our customers' specifications while utilizing our design standards.
- Collaborate with other designers and develop the best die strip layout overall 3-views of the die design.
- Prepare detailed drawings, including a bill of materials (BOM).
- Conducted simulations and analyses to ensure die designs were manufacturable, durable, and cost-effective.
- Provide technical support to the manufacturing team during the die-build process.
- Troubleshoot design issues and offer solutions during testing of the die.
Qualifications: - Minimum of 3 years of experience designing metal stamping dies using SolidWorks or VISI.
- Proficient in SolidWorks or VISI (2D and 3D modeling, sheet metal design, etc.).
- Understanding of metal stamping processes, materials, and die design principles.
- Knowledge of industry standards, tooling design, and manufacturing practices.
- Strong problem-solving with attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently as well as collaborate in a team-oriented environment.
- Excellent communication skills, working with customers during design review strategies and with other employees.
Preferred Skills: - Knowledge and experience with die tryouts and troubleshooting can help.
- Familiarity with other CAD tools or simulation software is a plus.
- Understanding CAM software for generating toolpaths and machine setups does help.
