Journeyman Tool & Die Maker - Job Description

Located in Addison, IL, DTI assists our customers with product design, manufacturing efficiencies, cost and quality control and excellent response times.

We seek a self-directed Tool & Die Maker who builds single or multiple stage progressive dies and related jigs, assembly, fixtures and checking fixtures by performing the following duties.

• Studies specifications, engineering blueprints, tool orders, and shop data and confers with engineering and shop personnel to resolve design problems related to material characteristics, dimensional tolerances, service requirements, manufacturing capability.
• Sets up and operates machine tools and fits and assembles parts to fabricate tools, mechanisms and machines for experimental and new tooling.
• Solves problems relative to materials, tools, work-holding arrangements, machine settings, product specifications, and fabrication methods for production process, applying knowledge of mechanics, shop mathematics, metal properties, layout and machining procedures.
• Consults with engineer and other personnel regarding product information such as design, capacity and purpose and types of material to be used to fabricate product.
• Analyzes written specifications, drawings, rough sketches and verbal instructions to plan sequence of operations.
