Manual Machinist - Job Description

A Chicago based precision machine shop is seeking a Manual Machinist to join our team in Chicago, IL.

Job Summary:

We are looking for a Manual Machinist to join our team. In this position, you will help us create tools and other components using a variety of equipment, such as a lathe, a drill press, and grinding machines. Our ideal candidate has completed a training program through an industry apprenticeship or earned a machinist certificate from a vocational school and has at least one year of manufacturing experience. Prior roles as a lathe operator or in another manual machining position is a plus.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Read blueprints to determine what equipment and materials are necessary for the job.
• Follow the blueprints to create the appropriate tools and components.
• Operate your machines to grind, cut, and polish the materials.
• Finish projects using manual tools.
• Inspect and maintain equipment to ensure they remain in good working order.

Manual Machinist Requirements and Qualifications

• Machinist vocational certificate or completed industry apprenticeship.
• Manual dexterity.
• Lathe machining experience.
• Bridgeport milling
• Blueprinting reading skills.
• Measuring instrument experience.
  • Micrometer, Caliper, Height gage, Plug and thread gages.
