Controller - Specialty Screw Corp. - Job Description


Specialty Screw Corp. has been family owned and operated since 1953. Initially focusing on supplying fasteners to the cabinet hardware and automotive sectors. Over the decades, the company has evolved into a premier, innovative supplier of special cold formed parts, offering extensive secondary machining operations.

The Controller is responsible for overseeing the accounting department. This role also serves as a consultant for managers within the organization, advising them of current budgetary information and collaborating with managers to create a fiscal strategy that aligns with the goals of the organization.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Overseeing / auditing the accounting procedures of the department and company
  • Engage in critical and confidential aspects of accounting.
  • Provide assistance in the purchasing of insurance. Handle banking and legal relationships.
  • Responsible for physical inventory, yearend audits, auditor relationships, and financial results reviews
  • Responsible for cost accounting, which includes review average costs, margins on parts, establish overhead rates. Maintain profiting sharing and 401(K) plan documentation.
  • Maintain tax reports, which includes annual reports for income tax, section 125 and welfare plans as determined by tax accountants.
  • Advise management on matters of fiscal procedure and importance for the organization.
  • Ensure compliance with the financial procedures of the organization.
  • Works with confidential data, which, if disclosed, might have significant internal effect or minor external effect.

Supervisory Responsibility:

The controller oversees all employees of the accounting and purchasing department and is responsible for the performance management and hiring of the employees within the department. This position reports directly to our CEO.

Education:

Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or business preferred as well as 10 years of previous or similar work experience. Manufacturing experience preferred.
